Choosing a location can be tricky. But it doesn’t have to be! Light is actually the most important part of having pretty pictures, but a nice location provides a beautiful backdrop for your dreamy images.
Here are some of my favorite locations!
This is a highly requested spot in Locust, NC. This big tree is in an open field, so you get the epic shots that include the tree, but then also get the tall grass and sunset light at the end of your session! This free location is perfect for family, maternity, and engagement sessions!
The Providence Cotton Mill is located in Maiden, NC. The huge mill provides a dreamy backdrop and is perfect for Bridal Portraits. There is a fee to shoot here and we have to schedule a time with them, so let me know if you are interested in this location and we can make it happen!
The UNCC botanical gardens are a great spot to capture the colors of each season. The flowers are in full bloom in the spring, lush greenery in the summer, and bright leaves in the fall. There is a fee to shoot here as well, but it is worth it in my opinion!
Downtown Albemarle is one of my favorites. There are plenty of bright brick buildings to provide a clean background, but then within walking distance, there is a small park to give you grass and trees. This location is free and provides a lot of variety!
Morrow Mountain State Park has trees, fields, a lake, and a small mountain overlook. There are so many pretty spots here where nature is all around. This location is free.
My portable backdrop is a great option for first birthday cake smash sessions. I have the wooden hoops and greenery to hang on the backdrop. As long as you have a large, well lit space in your home, I can bring this backdrop to you!
My neighbors back yard has been a popular location as well. We live in Stanfield, NC and I have loved having sessions in the overgrown field and trees right next to my house.
Romare Bearden and Marshall Park are very close together in Charlotte, NC. We are able to get the city vibe as well as a park in one session. These locations are free to use!
Your home is a great option for sessions as well. If it is cold or bad weather, let’s take photos in the place that means the most to you and is the location of so many memories. Your home is the perfect location for in home newborn sessions, maternity photos, and lifestyle family sessions!
Downtown Monroe (any small downtown area really) is a great place to walk around, explore and take photos as we go. Normally when I shoot in a small downtown area, I don’t have specific locations in mind. We just walk around, find the light and shoot wherever it feels right.
Frank Liske Park in Concord, NC. This location is one I fall back on when we can’t figure out where else to go. And the only reason it isn’t one of my first choices is because I have shot at this dependable and free location so many times. The open fields, pretty trees, and pond provide lots of different options for us to use.
The Andrews Farm is in Midland, NC. There is a fee to shoot here and we have to schedule a time to go. But this gorgeous home is surrounded by well kept grounds and gardens, and is probably the only place I want to take photos in the bathroom. This location is perfect for bridal portraits, but we could really use this space for any type of shoot!
Kannapolis Research Park. This is such a solid spot, with beautiful buildings, a small park, and close to a downtown area.
Downtown Sailsbury, NC. This is another downtown area with a lot of character and different buildings that provide variety for the session!
Charlotte, NC has so much to offer. You can park and walk around to find pretty places.
Midtown Park in Charlotte, NC gives a different feel. It is a small park, but has plenty to offer and provides a pretty & free location to use.
Fourth Ward Park is another cute little park in Charlotte, NC. It has sidewalks and paths underneath a canopy of trees.
Also, anywhere you have in mind is totally an option. I love going to new places. Family land, a restaurant or brewery that is special to you. A hobby that you enjoy doing together. We can incorporate these things into your photo session!
Don’t forget about your wedding venue as an option for engagement or bridal portraits. Most of the time, if you are getting married at a venue, they will let you use the venue for these sessions at no extra charge.
